In the event of damage or loss, Beck Neilson Group can usually provide a pre-loss, post-loss, post-repair and/or loss-in-value appraisals to aid the insurance claim process.
Most often the owner of the jewelry hires the appraiser, but insurance brokers or insurance carriers can also take on this role.
Damage & loss appraisal are unique and certain details need to be discussed to determine if the appraisal assignment is possible. We typically require images, documentation and/or descriptions of the item prior to the damage or loss.
Once an agreed upon time and location have been set, our appraisers inspect the jewelry in-person and then return to our office to complete the necessary research and produce the report. Sometimes it is possible to complete an appraisal without the onsite inspection, if proper images, documentation and descriptions are provided.
Our appraisals adhere to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) standards. All appraisal reports include images, detailed descriptions and accurate valuations in the appropriate market. Reports are available in both digital and hard copy formats & we proudly use eco-friendly recycled paper for our appraisal reports & business stationary.
Appraisals are billed on an hourly basis with a 2-hour minimum, or a per-item flat fee. Contact us to learn what option best fits your needs.
To provide an accurate estimate for an appraisal, we need to know the number of pieces and types of jewelry. Photographs are excellent, because we will have a better sense of how much valuation time will be needed. We typically require images, documentation and/or descriptions of the item prior to the damage or loss.
While onsite, our appraisers need a small workspace or table, access to an electrical outlet for their equipment and running water in the event the jewelry needs a cleaning prior to inspection.
